II International Walrus Championship V. Romanovsky

Do you want to test the limits of your endurance, and maybe even push them further? On Saturday, February 1, you will be able to do it under the guidance of the best propagator of conscious ice swimming and Guinness World Record holder Valerjan Romanovsky. This is a great opportunity to see how your body reacts to the cold.

Shortcuts

The aim of the championship is to popularize safe cold swimming in Poland and around the world. Participants, during a prolonged stay in icy water, will have a chance to understand what intense cooling of the body is all about. As a result, they will be more aware of contacts with the cold and the mechanisms that occur in the body during a sudden drop in temperature.

Of course, the most important thing during the event is safety – that’s why all competitors will be under the constant supervision of paramedics, who many times have worked with people in hypothermia. Participants will be able to learn how to properly turn the body temperature back to normal and how to assess hypothermia and provide first aid to an extremely hypothermic person.

Rules of competition in ice swimming championships

The competition will be held in two categories, separately between men and women. Each participant will be able to compete for two titles:

  1. Title of Record Holder – given to the person who spends the most time in water with a temperature up to max. 2°C;
  2. Winner’s title – awarded individually to the highest scoring contestants in both men and women categories (time in the water/BMI of the competitor)

Participants must completely submerge their bodies, including shoulders and arms. The swim is interrupted when the competitor abandons further participation or the judge and/or paramedic decides to stop the competition.

What you should know

The championship is open to a maximum of 70 people, both from Poland and abroad. The prerequisites for participation in the event are registration (more details can be found on our Facebook page), at least 2 years of experience in winter swimming in open bodies of water, physical fitness and mental endurance.

Who knows, maybe you will be the next record holder?
